[101129][Interview] <Acoustic> Im Seul Ong wishes to look manly.
"This is my first movie, I'm happy that it's related to music." Im Seul Ong said he was extremely proud that he made his debut as an actor in a movie about music.
Nowadays idols do not only remain on stage. Whether they want it or not they all rush to the screen. It is known that leading a life as an idol is very hard. When you meet them in real life, you will get to witness two kinds of situations. One, a situation where they go for the title as an actor as a secondary activity without any knowledge whatsoever. The other is the opposite, a situation where talent and passion to be a future actor can clearly be seen. We met up with 2AM's Im Seul Ong who made his debut on big screen in <Acoustic>. Which situation does he belong to? Although felt burdened without the three other members, Im Seul Ong was strong by himself. Besides he also gave out the impression of a future actor.
"The beginning didn't look so well."
Im Seul Ong, who stood out only by promoting as a singer with his songs "Can't Let You Go Even If I Die", "I Was Wrong", and "Nagging" with IU, tried on a new challenge this year. The pleasant charms shown on variety shows were translated into the roles of playful "Tae Hoon" in the drama <Personal Taste>, a tough young boy "Soo Chul" in the one-act play <Dosirak>, and therefore widened his experience as an actor. But that's not the end. He also debuted in the big screen in the movie <Acoustic> which was released on the 28th October.
Im Seul Ong talked about his feelings without the other members and stood alone as an actor. "Although we can show a great performance during the short time on stage, but I think what you can show in music and in movie are different." He stated that as an actor he could show his own charm which couldn't be shown in a team. But in the beginning, it didn't look very well.
Although as one of the cast in <Personal Taste> he could somewhat appeal to the public, during the initial telecast, his acting skill stirred up some criticisms. "At first I really don't know what to do in front of the camera. 'How should I move in this angle?', 'How should I deliver the dialogue?' There were a lot of thoughts like this, because I didn't know anything of course I did some mistakes. Moreover the character I played was a very exaggerated and impetuous character. Anyway, I learned a lot during that process."
"After watching the drama and the one-act play, Kwonnie said to me, 'Wow! Hyung, you are getting better. It looked great.' I watched it together with him, and I felt great myself. Chang Min Hyung also complimented me. Jin Woon said, 'Wow, it's fun!'. He's still a kid." (laughed). Looking at his expression while talking about his proud members showed that he already brushed aside the criticisms about his acting skill. And Im Seul Ong added, "Personally, compared to people's evaluation about whether I can act or cannot act, I prefer to hear that I successfully delved into the overall flow of the movie. It will be absolutely great to know that people think I am an actor that fit naturally into a role."
"I would like to try a manly role."
In <Acoustic> Im Seul Ong played the role of a college student. It is a somewhat daily and ordinary character which is rarely seen on the big screen. "The character is similar yet different from myself. He's outrageous but caring and attentive to others just like me." (laughed)
<Acoustic> is not a large scale movie, but an omnibus film with a certain amount of reason and importance. "I cannot say it's a popular movie, but I'd like to think that this movie will amuse and touch people who love music. It's my first movie, but I'm happy because it is related to music." He was grateful that he could add the musical movie in his filmography.
Since he played the role as a college student of his own age, we wondered whether Im Seul Ong envied the college romance he couldn't enjoy and the life of an ordinary 24 year old. "The unfortunate thing is not only the study, but everything I cannot do, and everything I cannot have. I obviously envy those things. At the moment I cannot do anything about it because of the condition. If we stop our activities, I do intend to study hard. Other members also have the same idea."
It is undeniable that singer is a full time job. But Im Seul Ong's plan on being an actor is not a small ambition. "I have a lot of dreams, but first of all I think I will do whatever task given to me. Soon 2AM's album will be released. I think I will continue the promotion as an actor and the rest one step at a time. I really like Cha Seung Won sunbaenim, so if there's an opportunity I would like to play a manly role like a bodyguard. Macho role and such. That's the dream I always have."
